Star player: ROSS D
SAM A (2)
A miserable afternoon and a very heavy pitch to start todays game. Once again with several boys unavailable we started with a skeleton team. We started really well with the majority of the possession and keeping the ball in PW half but we narrowly missed some good chances on goal. Unfortunately Jon suffered an ankle injury from which he was unable to continue. This changed the dynamics of the game, giving PW the incentive to come forward. Disappointingly Jack received our first yellow card of the season after a reaction from a PW player, giving us all the harsh reminder that whatever another team throw at us it is always important that we turn the other cheek. Nearing the end of the first half PW scored a lucky goal as Ross slipped in the goal mouth, narrowly missing the save (1 -0), which they closely followed by a second goal making the half time score (2 - 0).
Half time talk was about keeping our composure, not defending too high, but most of all using the width to help ease the movement of the ball in the muddy conditions.
Second half started well with Sam scoring an early goal past the PW keeper (2 - 1). PW then responded to this scoring to further goals making the score (4 - 1). After a bad tackle on Reece giving PW another yellow card we were awarded a free kick which Reece struck well and Sam finished into the net bringing the score to (4 - 2). We continued to try to play our football under some difficult conditions but unfortunately right at the end PW scored another as the ball trickled over the line (5 - 2).
MOM: Ross for a real captains performance, encouraging everybody and trying to lift the team through the whole game - well done.
Thanks to Nigel for running the line in these difficult weather conditions.
Managers Note: A hard fought game with highs and lows, but with the lack of substitutes the options were limited and you should all be proud of yourselves for pulling together and for the effort which you showed today.
